Fashion Week Event Raises Funds to Benefit NGOs Focused on Addressing Gender-based Violence and Supporting Survivors and their Families
Prioritizing the safety, support, and empowerment of women and girls around the world, the Fourth annual Caring for Women Dinner presented by Kering Foundation will raise funds to benefit organizations focused on addressing gender-based violence and supporting survivors and their families in gaining financial empowerment and independence. Co-hosted by Salma Hayek Pinault and François-Henri Pinault, Colman Domingo, Demi Moore, Jessica Chastain, Julianne Moore, and Madonna, the event will take place on Thursday, September 11th, at The Pool in Manhattan.
Held at the start of New York Fashion Week, the Caring for Women Dinner will gather 200 highly influential guests from the arts and culture, media, entertainment, and fashion communities, for an intimate dinner, a special performance, and an auction of one-of-a-kind items and experiences from Kering’s Houses, including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Boucheron, Pomellato, and Ginori 1735. Last year’s Caring for Women Dinner raised $3 million to help end gender-based violence and improve the lives of survivors. This year, proceeds will benefit Sanctuary for Families, FreeFrom, Violence Intervention Program, and Equality Now.
“To ensure that women and children can live free from gender-based violence, we must commit to providing survivors with the resources and support necessary to rebuild their lives with autonomy and safety,” says François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering and Chairman of the Kering Foundation.
Founded in 2008, the Kering Foundation is committed to building a world free from gender-based violence, in which women and children can live safely and thrive. It partners with local specialized non-profit organizations in six countries to support survivor-centered services and prevention programs. It also mobilizes its networks to take action, raise awareness and collect critical additional funds to end violence against women and children.
The organizations chosen to receive funds from this year’s Caring for Women Dinner are:
Sanctuary for Families: Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and related forms of gender violence. Each year, Sanctuary’s holistic shelter, clinical, legal, and economic empowerment services help thousands of the city’s most marginalized survivors and their families move forward on their journeys from immediate survival, to stability, to self-sufficiency. Funds raised will support Sanctuary’s Economic Empowerment Programs — whose intensive workshops impart digital skills, develop literacy, and lead to sustainable living-wage jobs—as well as a range of supportive services that help clients attain long-term stability and freedom from violence.
FreeFrom: FreeFrom is on a mission to end gender-based violence by building economic freedom and safety with survivors. A national organization led by queer, transgender, im/migrant, and BIPOC survivors, they create survivor-centered programs that promote financial stability, build collective power, push for meaningful change in laws and institutions, and change the narrative on GBV from one of pain to one of possibility. Funds raised will support GIFTED, their social enterprise that offers survivors pathways to financial independence through entrepreneurship and living-wage jobs, and their savings matching program that helps survivors build $1,440 in savings, increasing their financial security and safety.
Violence Intervention Program: The Violence Intervention Program is the only organization in New York City dedicated specifically to supporting Latina survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Their mission is to help survivors find safety, heal from abuse, and build strong, independent futures. They raise awareness, advocate for change, and provide culturally responsive services. Funds raised will help expand their Economic Justice Program, offering trauma-informed financial literacy, business development, and marketing workshops, along with emergency assistance and community-based advocacy for survivors.
Equality Now: Equality Now is a worldwide human rights organization dedicated to securing the legal and systemic change needed to end discrimination against all women and girls. Working with partners at national, regional and global levels, it draws on deep legal expertise and a diverse range of social, political and cultural perspectives to drive the change needed to achieve enduring gender equality. Funds raised will help strengthen the ecosystem of changemakers working to end sexual and gender-based violence and advance economic justice in Latin America through survivor empowerment, leadership development, legal advocacy, and community-driven reform.
