Promoting gender equality by supporting women’s organizations

  • In Korea, more than 500 organizations work to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, with over 2,000 activists working to support victims.
  • In 2024, the budget dedicated to preventing violence against women and supporting victims was cut by 14.2 billion won.
Advocacy and Collaboration to End Gender-Based Violence

Through the project “Strengthening Voices of Gender Equality against Gender-Based Violence”, the Korea Foundation for Women provides financial support to organizations addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and fosters cooperation through mutual understanding, knowledge sharing, and collective-care for activists.

KWF also supports legal and policy advocacy through research, public discussions, and lobbying; public awareness campaigns via media, events, and education.

Strengthening Women’s Organizations

As Korea’s only private women's fund, KFW’s mission is to support the growth of women's movement organizations through national and international civil society funding.

The Korea Foundation for Women aims to strengthen the financial and activist capacities of women’s organizations in Korea through the Gender Equality Fund, enabling them to pursue a long-term vision for gender equality advocacy and women’s movement leadership.

Together, they work to create a safe society, improve women's health rights, support women's economic empowerment, develop feminist leadership, foster new women's organizations, facilitate networking among domestic and international women's organizations, and promote intergenerational collaboration.
