Supporting child victims of abuse through Children's Advocacy Centers
In the U.S., 1-in-4 girls and 1-in-13 boys experience child sexual abuse. It's 1-in-5 children in Europe, and estimated to affect more than 1 billion children globally. It's a huge problem with potentially lifelong effects. But, with a strong, supportive community and the best services science can offer, children can and do go back to being kids after abuse.
The National Children’s Alliance (NCA) is a not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote and support communities in providing a coordinated investigation and comprehensive response to child victims of abuse through nearly 1,000 Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs). A CAC is a child-friendly facility where law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy professionals work together to investigate abuse, hold offenders accountable, and most importantly, help children heal from abuse.
Since 1988, NCA has been making a big difference by providing support, advocacy, quality assurance, and national leadership for CACs, all to help support the important work that CACs do in communities across the country. NCA is a national leader in child abuse intervention, prevention, training, technical assistance, research and support.
• 959 member CACs serve kids in communities throughout the United States and abroad
• In 2024, CACs served more than 370,000 children, helping them to recover
• CACs also trained more than 2.3 million children and adults in child abuse prevention
